While 2024 was a season to celebrate as the 20th anniversary of the club, results have been frustratingly hard to come by.
The weekend's Southern Conference League Shield Playoff semi final with North Herts was reminiscent of the story of 2024 as a whole.
In parts the Tigers were very good. Building pressure, executing points and being defiant in defence. Unfortunately, as with most performances this year, we struggled to maintain it for the full 80.
It's not all bad though. 2024 has been a vast improvement on 2023. A focus on youthful recruitment was never going to mean we were our strongest this year, but the investment into the squad will bear fruit in the coming years as these young players learn the game and adopt the nuances of rugby league. The experienced heads of Sam Richbell and Rob Ashton will be replaced by younger players who will have learned from them.
The talented core of Josh Hudson-Lett, Bailey Thomas and Dan Barber will find themselves supported by ever improving youngsters and the cycle will start again.
There is also the hopes that the League 1 bid will be granted to us and we will be able to raise the standards of our SCL squad off the back of that as we truly cement ourselves as a rugby league town!
Injuries have blighted our season and clearly had a detrimental affect but this has opened the door for new players.
Its positive mental attitude that we need to spin from a season which was always going to be a rebuild.
Our winter plans are in place and there will be small training camps and the odd friendly in the mix too. So keep your eyes peeled!
